Zohmun Calling

1200HRS IST
The office order was out. The postings were mentioned against each names. I got mine in a place called Zohmun. Where is that place? Office staffs helped me located from a big map. It was about 170 km north from the capital. The thought was to decline the offer!! Anyway let's know something about it before eventually deciding. I knew there are large no. of personnel posted in terrain and location more tough then what I got.

I now need someone to guide me how to get there. The map indicates that the place was connected by state highway. But what vehicle goes there. All selected are to mind their own transportation to reach their place of posting. I recollect having traveled to a village located halfway in 2004 on NSS tour duty.

I checked with a police radio organization personnel. He was posted in an outpost nearby and to find me some logistics help. He got what I needed. I even googled up the maps and their elevation. I got all necessary info pertaining to my post. I booked ticket from an unfriendly vendor.

0600HRS IST
I was waiting for the vehicle in a certain pick up zone.
It arrived after half hour had gone. I confirmed in case of otherwise. It is! Other persons on board alighted saying that it will take some 45 minutes to load some provisions from the stores. We wait and had an intro with the other first timer to the place who happened to be there too. After another hour had gone we all board the automobile and finally we are rolling. Had a prayer stop on the city outskirt and then we moved on.

The engine moans continuously on the highway in south direction. The zero point had us turned eastward and from national highway to state highway. The road is narrower but smoother. The furring of the engine was more noiseless as uphill climb is less. After two and half hours of traveling we had a breakfast in a village to continue with the rest of the day. Stop once or twice by a stream for refreshing ourselves.

1430HRS IST
The good road now come to and end. I was told that we had another 14km to reach the place. I was also assured that this would be a merry ride. We were now bumping. We become friendly!

1350HRS IST
We came across around 14 villages to reach this place. I was welcome by unknown ones and assigned to a to-be-colleague household. He brought me around with introductory speeches wherever necessary. Slept well not knowing that the coming saturday I was to be meeting how uniformed personnel can be so obsessed by crazy water.
